Celebrities Facing Pressure to Support Harris Publicly, Says Musk
Failure to align with the Democratic stance could jeopardize careers in the US entertainment industry, tech billionaire Elon Musk suggested.

In an episode of Joe Rogan's podcast aired on Monday, Musk pointed out that many American celebrities are publicly backing Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential race due in part to concerns over job security. Notably, several prominent figures in Hollywood, including those who were once neutral on political matters, have thrown their support behind the Democratic candidate.

During the conversation, Rogan remarked on the unusual nature of this solidarity, implying that these celebrities might believe it would enhance their chances of landing more roles. Musk countered with a different viewpoint, asserting that “these celebrities, they get a call from someone powerful in Hollywood. That person says: ‘You know it would be really great if you endorsed Kamala.’”

He indicated that there is an unspoken threat associated with not endorsing Harris, suggesting that a lack of support might lead to diminished opportunities within the industry. Musk emphasized that while these threats are not made directly, the implications are understood: “They don’t make the threat. They don’t need to. But everyone knows what would happen if you don’t [back Harris].”

As a prominent supporter of former President Donald Trump, the Republican nominee, Musk has expressed interest in a cabinet-level position in a potential Trump administration. Rogan himself endorsed Trump after discussing Musk's points, stating that the tech mogul's arguments had swayed his opinion.

Rogan noted that Hollywood, which has typically leaned to the left politically, has become increasingly intolerant of dissenting views. He pointed out that during President Barack Obama’s tenure, public figures like Clint Eastwood could openly identify as Republican without facing significant backlash. He referenced how Ronald Reagan transitioned from being a Hollywood actor to politics, eventually becoming president as a Republican.

“Once Trump got into office, he became this focal point, where all logic was thrown out the window,” Rogan stated. “It's just ‘Trump is bad, you have to attack Trump.’”

Notable personalities such as Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, and actor Harrison Ford have publicly endorsed Harris.
