Biden and Trump engage in phone conversation, reports media
During the Thanksgiving holidays, a previously unreported conversation took place between US President Joe Biden and his soon-to-be replacement, according to NBC, which cited two sources familiar with the call. This marked their first direct communication since Donald Trump's visit to the White House on November 13.

NBC reported that the Republican president-elect reached out to extend Thanksgiving wishes to Biden. The interaction was reportedly brief and described as “not substantive.”

Biden decided to forgo his campaign for a second term this past summer after facing a poor debate performance against Trump. Trump subsequently achieved a decisive victory over Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris in the November election.

Following the election, Biden and Trump had a ceremonial meeting at the White House, where they shook hands in front of the media. Biden expressed his anticipation for a “peaceful transition,” to which Trump replied that the transition would be “smooth as you can get.”

Both political parties have often accused each other of promoting hateful rhetoric and demonization. Trump has labeled Biden an “enemy of the state” and criticized him as a weak leader who lacks the respect of international counterparts, questioning his competence to hold the presidency.

Conversely, Biden has referred to Trump supporters as “garbage” and has accused Trump of attempting to seize power through “political violence.” Biden has drawn parallels between Trump’s rhetoric and that of “Nazi Germany,” asserting that he poses a threat to American democracy.

After losing the 2020 US elections, Trump opted not to extend the customary invitation to the White House. He also skipped Biden’s inauguration in January 2021, making him the first outgoing US president in 150 years to miss the swearing-in ceremony of his successor.

Trump's upcoming inauguration is scheduled for January 20. Prior to the election, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated that Biden plans to attend the ceremony irrespective of the election outcome.

This Thanksgiving, Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden celebrated in Nantucket, Massachusetts, with family, including the president's son, Hunter, and their daughter, Ashley. Recently, Biden granted a pardon to Hunter for federal crimes, encompassing actions he may have committed since 2014, which has drawn criticism from both Trump and members of Biden’s own party.
