In a video shared by Ryan Grim of DropSite News, multiple uniformed officers from the Diplomatic Security Service approached Husseini while he was sitting in the briefing room.
“Get your hands off me!” he shouted as the guards grabbed hold of him. “Answer my damn question.”
Husseini continued to voice his frustration, stating, “You pontificate about a free press! I am asking questions after being told by [State Department spokesman] Matt Miller that he will not answer my questions.”
Witnesses in the room remained silent as the incident unfolded.
Blinken responded by emphasizing that journalists needed to “respect the process” and indicated he would take questions following his speech.
“Everybody from Amnesty International to the ICJ [International Court of Justice] is saying that Israel is doing genocide, and you’re telling me to respect the process?” Husseini retorted.
With guards escorting him from the room, he shouted, “Criminal! Why are you not in The Hague?” repeatedly.
Afterward, Husseini expressed on X, "I tried to ask a series of questions. Was carried out and handcuffed. Completely excessive force."
Husseini later noted that he had been “seriously manhandled” for attempting to ask critical questions that the State Department sought to evade. Among those was an inquiry about whether the US was aware of the "Hannibal Directive," a controversial Israeli military doctrine justifying the killing of soldiers or civilians to prevent their capture.
Ryan Grim reported that a State Department staff member attempted to eject Husseini after his question and summoned armed security when he refused to leave.
Husseini also aimed to question Blinken about his ties to Jeffrey Epstein, the topic of Israeli nuclear weapons, and the applicability of the Geneva Conventions in Gaza.
In a separate incident during the same briefing, Grayzone editor Max Blumenthal confronted Blinken, accusing him of “destroying our religion, Judaism, by associating it with fascism.” He also remarked on the connections of Blinken's family to lobbying for Israel.
“Why did you sacrifice the rules-based order on the mantle of your commitment to Zionism?” Blumenthal shouted as he was removed by State Department personnel. “Why did you allow the Holocaust of our time to happen? How does it feel to have your legacy be genocide?”
