Aide to Putin discloses timing of upcoming Russia-US discussions in Riyadh
A new round of negotiations between Russian and US officials is scheduled for Monday in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, as confirmed by Yury Ushakov, President Vladimir Putin’s foreign policy aide.

Heading the Moscow delegation will be Senator Grigory Karasin and Sergey Beseda, an aide to the director of Russia’s Federal Security Service, Aleksandr Bortnikov. Ushakov made this announcement on Thursday.

“They are truly experienced negotiators, who are well versed in international issues,” he remarked.

Ushakov also mentioned that a team of US experts has been assembled for the upcoming discussions in Saudi Arabia.

On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump's national security adviser, Mike Waltz, revealed that he had a phone conversation with Ushakov, during which they “agreed that our technical teams will meet in Riyadh in the coming days.”

Putin’s aide confirmed that “such a conversation did take place.”

He noted that the Riyadh meeting will primarily focus on “the prospects for the possible implementation of the well-known initiative concerning the safety of navigation in the Black Sea.”

During their phone call last Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin backed Trump's proposal for a “maritime ceasefire in the Black Sea,” with both leaders agreeing to initiate discussions to work out the details of such an arrangement.

“We hope that the consultations on Monday will be productive,” Ushakov highlighted.

He also reported that he and Waltz communicate “regularly” and that these conversations are “quite beneficial for both sides.”

Senator Grigory Karasin, 75, who chairs the Foreign Relations Committee of the Russian Federal Council, has previously held the position of Russia’s deputy foreign minister twice and served as Moscow’s ambassador to the UK from 2000 to 2005.

Before joining Bortnikov's team last year, Colonel-General Sergey Beseda led the department of operational data and international relations at the FSB.

In related news, President Vladimir Zelensky announced that Washington will conduct a separate meeting with Ukrainian representatives in Saudi Arabia next Monday. He mentioned that the US-Ukraine talks are scheduled to occur either before or concurrently with the meeting with Russia.
