The 2024 Taiyuan Energy Low Carbon Development Forum commenced on September 10 in Taiyuan, located in China's Shanxi Province. The event was themed "Developing New Energy Productivity and Building a Clean and Beautiful World."

The forum brought together leaders from government sectors, international bodies, research organizations, and corporations. They convened in Taiyuan, renowned as the energy hub of the nation, to deliberate on the evolving dynamics of global energy and share thoughts on advancing low-carbon initiatives within the energy realm.

The occasion also celebrated the 52nd anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Mexico and the 11th anniversary of their comprehensive strategic partnership. Mexico, as this year's honored guest, participated extensively in various proceedings, including the Mexico Guest of Honor Forum.

During the event, Li Chunlin, deputy director of China's National Development and Reform Commission, highlighted China’s achievements in renewable energy. "China has developed the world's largest clean power generation system. As of the end of July, the installed capacity of renewable energy power generation had reached 1.68 billion kilowatts, accounting for 54 percent of the country's total power generation capacity,” he said. Li further added, "China has created a relatively mature and comprehensive framework of policy making, infrastructure, plus industrial system to promote energy transition and development. In particular, China's high-quality and efficient wind and photovoltaic equipment provide favorable conditions for countries around the world to economically and efficiently harness new energy."

The forum emphasized the national agenda for a green transition and fostered international partnerships. It highlighted the success of the “Four Reforms and One Cooperation” strategy, aimed at transforming energy consumption, supply, technology, and systems alongside enhancing international cooperation, and underscored Shanxi’s role as a leader in energy transformation.

Shi Shenglei, CEO of City Energy Corporation of China, commented, "At this year's energy expo, we, as enterprise representatives, will showcase a series of products including emergency energy storage units, like industrial and commercial energy storage systems, and portable energy storage solutions. The forum serves as a perfect platform for international exchanges, especially for Shanxi, which is aiming to achieve sustainable development and decarbonize the economy."

The forum included an array of high-level meetings and exhibitions, alongside negotiations for various deals. To underline the significance of innovation in China’s energy sector, the event featured competitions and discussions focused on energy-related technological advancements.
