Zanzibar's President Honors Chinese Medical Team with Medals in Tanzania
Tanzania's Zanzibari President Hussein Ali Mwinyi honored members of the 33rd batch of the Chinese medical team by presenting them with medals and commemorative certificates. This gesture was a recognition of their valuable contributions to the country's medical and health initiatives.
The ceremony took place on Monday at the Zanzibar State House, marking the conclusion of the team's year-long medical services in the Indian Ocean islands.
During the event, Mwinyi expressed his gratitude towards the Chinese government for its significant contributions to Zanzibar's medical services and healthcare over the past six decades. He commended the Chinese medical team's hard work and selfless dedication, noting that they employed advanced medical technology to treat local patients and actively trained local medical students and doctors, thereby developing talent for Zanzibar’s medical sector.
Mwinyi highlighted the extraordinary efforts of the Chinese doctors in advancing minimally invasive laparoscopic technology in Zanzibar, noting that this enabled local practitioners to achieve a remarkable improvement in laparoscopic capabilities from the ground up.
Jiang Guoqing, the chief of the medical team, affirmed that the team would continue to enhance health cooperation and exchanges with Zanzibar, aiming to provide high-quality medical services to the local population and contribute further to the friendship between China and Africa.
The 33rd batch of the Chinese medical team arrived in Zanzibar in September of the previous year, during which they treated nearly 40,000 outpatients and organized 20 large-scale free clinics. China has been dispatching medical teams to Zanzibar since 1964.
