The wrestling legend pledged his support in a speech at the Republican National Convention.

Wrestling icon Hulk Hogan energized the Republican National Convention (RNC) in Milwaukee on Thursday by ripping off his shirt during his on-stage speech to emphasize his backing of Donald Trump.

Hogan took the stage just before Trump was scheduled to accept his party’s nomination for the upcoming November presidential election. Initially dressed in a navy blazer and a T-shirt featuring a photo of himself with the US flag and the caption “real American,” Hogan soon removed his blazer and ripped off his T-shirt, unveiling a Trump-J.D. Vance tank top beneath, which referenced the Republican nominees for President and Vice-President.

Expressing his admiration for Trump, Hogan called him his “hero” and a “gladiator.” The shirt-ripping act coincided with a passionate part of his speech highlighting his outrage over the attempted assassination of Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, the previous weekend.

“What happened last week when they took a shot at my hero and they tried to kill the next president of the United States? Enough was enough. Let Trump-a-mania run wild, brother. Let Trump-a-mania rule again. Let Trump-a-mania make America great again,” he exclaimed, quoting Trump’s campaign slogan.

Hogan also criticized the US political establishment for launching “investigations, impeachments, and court cases” against Trump to tarnish his reputation, asserting that the former president “is still kicking their butts.”

The audience responded to Hogan’s performance with enthusiasm, and Trump himself was seen smiling and applauding the wrestler.

Trump later addressed the RNC on Thursday night, delivering a completely rewritten speech following the Butler incident. He formally accepted the GOP nomination, promising that “four months from now, we will have an incredible victory, and we will begin the four greatest years in the history of our country.”

Since the assassination attempt, Trump has seen a rise in most polls, currently holding a four-point lead over Democratic rival Joe Biden, according to an Emerson College survey published on Thursday. The poll also indicated that Trump was leading Biden in seven key swing states that could determine the election’s outcome.
