Following his victory in the November 5 election, Trump is set to be inaugurated as the 47th president of the United States on January 20 next year. He has disclosed numerous appointees, though some require Senate confirmation.
“Last night and this morning, several of President Trump’s Cabinet nominees and administration appointees were targeted in violent, un-American threats to their lives and those who live with them,” transition team spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt stated on Wednesday. “In response, law enforcement acted quickly to ensure the safety of those who were targeted.”
The threats included bomb scares and “swatting,” a dangerous practice involving fake reports to police about ongoing violent crimes, necessitating the response of heavily armed special units. Numerous “swatting” incidents in the US have resulted in tragic outcomes.
Leavitt did not specify the individuals affected by these threats. She has received a nomination to serve as the White House press secretary in the forthcoming administration.
“With President Trump as our example, dangerous acts of intimidation and violence will not deter us,” she remarked.
Earlier this year, Trump narrowly avoided death during a campaign event in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13. He had turned to examine a migration chart just as the would-be gunman fired the first of eight shots. An audience member was killed, and two others sustained serious injuries, while Trump escaped with a minor ear injury.
As Secret Service agents rushed him off the stage, Trump raised a fist and urged the crowd to “fight, fight, fight.” Following this incident, the US Secret Service director resigned due to the agency's failures during the event.
The shooter from Butler was neutralized by a counter-sniper, and since then, the FBI has not disclosed any information regarding his motives or potential accomplices. Another assailant was apprehended in September while waiting in ambush at a Trump golf course in Florida; he was later identified as a pro-Ukrainian activist, with his trial still forthcoming.
Republicans have criticized President Joe Biden and the Democratic Party for allegedly inciting violence.
