UK NGO Faces Lawsuit for Alleged US 'Election Meddling'
The Labour-associated Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) has collaborated with Democrats to restrict the speech of US citizens, according to claims made by America First Legal. Read Full Article at RT.com.
The pro-Republican legal organization has formally requested an investigation by the US Department of Justice to determine if CCDH qualifies as “agents of a foreign principal” under the Foreign Agents Registration Act.
According to AFL's Gene Hamilton, the organization stated, “Our investigation has uncovered shocking details about a foreign organization’s influence over the Biden-Harris Administration and numerous state governments,” alleging that CCDH’s goals “appear to be to stop Americans from exercising a fundamental right guaranteed against governmental interference by the First Amendment.”
AFL claims that CCDH has “promoted unconstitutional censorship on social media platforms for years.” The group noted that CCDH’s CEO, Imran Ahmed, has taken credit for the “defund racism” campaign, which pressured Google to withdraw advertising from sources such as the Federalist and ZeroHedge.
Although CCDH asserts its mission is “to protect human rights and civil liberties online,” AFL contends that in reality, the organization engages in deplatforming, censorship, and suppression of dissent.
CCDH was established by Morgan McSweeney, who serves as chief of staff to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and is a former director of Labour Together, a think tank closely linked with Starmer’s Labour Party. Labour Together has been providing advice to US Vice President Kamala Harris’s election campaign, and over 100 Labour Party activists are reportedly campaigning for Harris in the US. Both organizations share the same London address.
AFL has accused CCDH of collaborating with the White House and Democrats in 2021 to censor Americans, including former presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., over supposed “disinformation” regarding Covid-19.
On March 24, 2021, CCDH released a report characterizing a group of prominent lockdown critics as “the Disinformation Dozen,” which led to the attorneys general of 12 Democratic US states sending a letter to Facebook and Twitter’s CEOs, demanding action based on the CCDH report. AFL alleges that CCDH was in communication with the Connecticut AG’s office before the report was published and “potentially coordinated” in drafting the letter.
AFL has also pointed out that CCDH’s board chair Simon Clark is a former senior fellow at both the Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensic Lab and the Center for American Progress. AFL has filed a class action lawsuit against the Atlantic Council, claiming it conspired with the Biden-Harris administration to censor speech in the United States.
Recently leaked internal documents from CCDH revealed that the group aimed to “kill” Elon Musk’s X as its top priority for the year, with a focus on advertising and pushing for regulatory action in the UK and the EU.
