Trump team knocks DeSantis’ Twitter campaign launch: ‘This way he doesn’t have to interact with people’

Former President Donald Trump has been attacking Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on social media for months, working to stymie support for his soon-to-be GOP presidential competition.

Now he’s going after his campaign launch, which DeSantis is expected to hold Wednesday on Twitter.

“Announcing on Twitter is perfect for Ron DeSantis,” a Trump adviser told POLITICO. “This way he doesn’t have to interact with people and the media can’t ask him any questions.”

Karoline Leavitt, a spokeswoman for Make America Great Again Inc., the PAC backing Trump, said in a statement Wednesday: “This is one of the most out-of-touch campaign launches in modern history. The only thing less relatable than a niche campaign launch on Twitter, is DeSantis’ after party at the uber elite Four Seasons resort in Miami.”

Trump has hurled repeated attacks against DeSantis’ policies and personality, calling the governor he once endorsed “disloyal” and as “dead as a doornail.”

“He’s got no personality. And I don’t think he’s got a lot of political skill,” Trump said during an interview with The Messenger.
