Trump suggests Israel attack Iran's nuclear facilities
US Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has emphasized that preventing Tehran from acquiring weapons of mass destruction should be a top priority. He has called for Israel to strike Iran's nuclear facilities in response to a recent missile attack by Tehran on Israel.

This week, Iran launched approximately 180 missiles at Israel in reprisal for the assassinations of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, both closely allied with Tehran. This missile attack resulted in the death of one Palestinian in the West Bank, and the Israeli military confirmed that some of the missiles struck its air bases.

The missile strike came after Israel conducted what it described as a “limited ground operation” in southern Lebanon against Hezbollah.

During a campaign event in North Carolina on Friday, Trump, known for his hardline approach toward Iran, expressed his disagreement with President Joe Biden’s reluctance to endorse an Israeli strike on Iran's nuclear capabilities.

“They asked him, what do you think about Iran, would you hit Iran? And he goes, ‘As long as they don’t hit the nuclear stuff.’ That’s the thing you want to hit, right? I mean, it’s the biggest risk we have, nuclear weapons,” Trump stated.

He further criticized Biden's response, saying, “When they asked him that question, the answer should have been, hit the nuclear first, and worry about the rest later.”

As president, Trump led the US withdrawal from the 2018 nuclear deal with Iran, a pact that had aimed to limit Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for easing economic sanctions. At the time, Trump contended that the agreement did not effectively prevent Tehran from developing nuclear weapons.

Following the missile attack from Iran, Axios reported that Israel is considering a significant retaliation, with all options available, including strikes on Iranian nuclear sites. Potential targets may also extend to gas and oil facilities or air defense systems, and there are discussions about the likelihood of targeted killings.

Meanwhile, an Al Jazeera report indicated that Iran has warned the US that any Israeli military action could trigger an “unconventional response.” As tensions intensify in the region, PMG has reported that Biden is becoming increasingly frustrated with Israel’s actions, including strikes against Hezbollah and the ongoing conflict in Gaza, with the White House recognizing the risk of a potential full-scale “regional war.”
