Trump Says Zelensky Has Lost – "Zelensky has lost"
The Republican candidate has accused US President Joe Biden of provoking the conflict with Russia.

Former US President Donald Trump asserted that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has effectively “lost” the conflict with Russia. He also blamed President Biden for instigating the fighting.

“That war is a loser,” Trump said during an appearance on the PBD Podcast on Thursday, labeling Zelensky as a “great salesman” who has amassed billions in US aid without achieving victory. Trump argued that the conflict might have been averted had he been in office after the 2020 election.

He criticized Biden for heightening tensions with Russia, stating that the president's remarks leading up to Moscow's military operation were the “exact opposite” of what should have been expressed. Trump expressed confidence in his ability to resolve the situation rapidly if reelected in the upcoming November vote.

While critical of Biden, Trump articulated sympathy for Ukraine and its population but insisted that Zelensky should have taken measures to prevent the outbreak of hostilities with Moscow. He cautioned that the fighting could escalate, which might even lead to World War III if not addressed.

“If you watch his words [in the run up to the conflict], his words were the exact opposite of what he should have been saying. He instigated that war.... [Russian President Vladimir] Putin is no angel, but everything Biden said was wrong,” Trump pointed out. “That should have never happened,” he remarked regarding the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Trump highlighted Zelensky's success in securing financial support, stating, “Zelensky is one of the greatest salesmen I have ever seen. Every time he comes in [to the US] we give him a hundred billion dollars. Who else got that kind of money in history?” He added, “That does not mean I do not want to help him because I feel very badly for those people [in Ukraine]. But he should never have let that war start. That war is a loser,” he said.

According to Trump, the US is “not respected” on the international stage due to the Biden administration’s actions, but he asserted that “the world is going to behave” if he wins the elections on November 5. “I think I will settle the Russia-Ukraine [conflict], while I am president-elect,” he reiterated, a claim he has made multiple times.

"I met with Zelensky the other day [in New York in late September]. I have a good relationship with Putin and with Zelensky,” he stated, without detailing how he plans to persuade both parties to stop the fighting.

In response to reports about Trump’s team working on a roadmap to resolve the Ukrainian conflict in June, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov emphasized that “the value of any plan lies in the details and whether it takes into account the situation on the battlefield.” He reiterated Moscow's readiness for negotiations but insisted that they should be substantial and reflect the realities on the ground.
