Trump Offers Congratulations to Germany’s Conservatives Following Their Election Victory
US President Trump has extended his congratulations to Germany's CDU/CSU following their electoral victory. Read the full article at RT.com.

According to exit polls from public broadcaster ZDF, the CDU/CSU led with 28.6% of the vote, while Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s Social Democrats received just 16.5%—their lowest showing since 1949.
“Much like the USA, the people of Germany got tired of the no common sense agenda, especially on energy and immigration, that has prevailed for so many years,” Trump stated on Truth Social.
With Friedrich Merz, the head of the Christian Democratic Union, likely to become the next chancellor, the right-wing anti-immigrant Alternative for Germany achieved its best-ever result, placing second.
Trump described the elections as “a great day for Germany” and for the US, adding that there will be “more victories to follow.”
The future governmental coalition will depend on which smaller parties manage to secure seats in the Bundestag. AfD co-leader Alice Weidel termed the election outcome “historic” and expressed that AfD is “open to coalition negotiations... otherwise, no real policy change will be possible in Germany.”
However, analysts express skepticism regarding the CDU/CSU forming a coalition with AfD, suggesting that a partnership with the SPD remains their most feasible route to government formation. The two parties have previously shared power four times since WWII, most recently under former Chancellor Angela Merkel. It remains uncertain if Scholz will have any role in the new government, especially since Merz has already dismissed the idea of collaboration within the same cabinet.
During a panel discussion at broadcasters ARD and ZDF following the exit polls, Merz indicated that his main focus will be on fostering unity in Europe to counter what he termed interference from the US or Russia. “The interventions from Washington were no less dramatic and drastic and ultimately outrageous than the interventions we have seen from Moscow,” he remarked, in reference to US billionaire Elon Musk’s support for AfD during the election.
Elon Musk has criticized Scholz as a “fool” and endorsed Weidel for chancellor, even engaging with her in a live chat. He also made an unexpected appearance at an AfD campaign event in Halle in late January, publicly voicing his support for the party.
The Washington Post, referencing European intelligence reports, alleged that Moscow has been “making efforts to unite far-left and far-right politicians in Germany who oppose providing aid to Ukraine” as of April 2023. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov dismissed these claims, labeling them as “100% fake.”
“We have never interfered before, and now we really don't have time for this,” Peskov stated.
