Trump identifies the 'greatest threat' to humanity
US President Donald Trump has identified nuclear weapons as the greatest threat to humanity, criticizing those who prioritize climate change and ignore the more immediate risks posed by weapons of mass destruction.

This statement follows the president's recent calls for nuclear disarmament among global powers.

In a Fox News interview on Sunday, Trump remarked that “climate lunatics” anticipate minor sea-level increases over centuries while neglecting the imminent danger of nuclear conflict that could arise “tomorrow.”

“They talk about global warming, and they say the ocean is going to rise one-eighth of an inch in the next 300 years. And nobody ever talks about nuclear weapons,” he commented.

Trump reflected on former US President Joe Biden’s assertions that climate change poses the greatest existential threat: “I watched [former US president Joe] Biden for years say the existential threat… is from the climate. And I said, ‘no’. The greatest is sitting in shelves in various countries called ‘nuclear weapons’ that are big monsters that can blow your heads off for miles and miles and miles.”

In advocating for global disarmament, Trump suggested on Thursday that all nations should dismantle their nuclear arsenals, noting that the US and Russia possess the largest stockpiles, while China's capabilities are rapidly growing. He urged for discussions on denuclearization, underlining the “crazy” power of these weapons.

In response, Moscow expressed its readiness to participate in arms control negotiations with Washington. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov emphasized the importance of such dialogue for global security and proposed that European nuclear states like France and the UK also be included in these discussions.

Peskov stated, “It is impossible to just overlook European nuclear arsenals in this dialogue.” He referenced recent comments from French President Emmanuel Macron, who labeled Russia a “threat to France and Europe,” and mentioned that he is contemplating extending France’s nuclear protection to additional EU member states. Moscow has accused Macron of harboring aggressive intentions towards Russia.
