Trump Identifies His 'Biggest Mistake'
Former US president and Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has reflected on his time in the White House, admitting to podcaster Joe Rogan that he made some “bad or disloyal” personnel choices during his administration from 2017 to 2021.

During his appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast on Saturday, Trump described his presidency as "great" but suggested it could have been even more successful had he chosen his staff differently.

“The biggest mistake I made, was I picked… a few people that I should not have picked,” he mentioned.

When Rogan inquired whether he was referring to neocons, Trump affirmed, saying, “Yes, neocons, or bad people, or disloyal people.” He further remarked, “You are reading about them a little bit today. A guy like Kelly, who is a bully, but a weak person,” referring to his former chief of staff.

Recently, John Kelly has made headlines with claims indicating that Trump privately praised Hitler during his presidency and stated that the Nazi leader “did some good things” more than once. While Trump's team has firmly denied these allegations, Democratic nominee Kamala Harris utilized the situation to label the former president a “fascist” and a potential dictator.

In the podcast, Trump also reflected on his controversial choice of arch-hawk John Bolton as National Security Advisor, noting that “Bolton was an idiot, but he was great for me.” Trump elaborated, “He is a nutjob, and every time I had to deal with a country - when they saw this whack job standing behind me – they said: ‘Oh man, Trump is going to go to war with him.”

He criticized Bolton’s role during President George H.W. Bush's administration when the US entered the Middle East in 1990, declaring, “They should have never done it. I used to say it as a civilian.” Trump eventually dismissed Bolton in September 2019 after 18 months in the position, citing strong disagreements with many of Bolton's suggestions.

In response to Kelly's claims during a CNN interview earlier this week, Bolton expressed concern that a Trump victory in the upcoming election would be “dangerous” for America. However, he dismissed claims of Trump being a “fascist,” arguing that to qualify as one, “you have to have a philosophy. Trump’s not capable of that.”
