Trump dismisses allegation that Russia turned down Ukraine ceasefire
US President Donald Trump has refuted allegations that Russia dismissed his proposal for a ceasefire in Ukraine, expressing his continued optimism for a resolution to the conflict.

On Friday, Trump spoke briefly to reporters outside the White House, mentioning that he had "a couple of good conversations today" regarding Ukraine, though he did not provide further details.

When asked if he had set a deadline for a ceasefire to Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump clarified, “Not a deadline, but I think we’ll have [a ceasefire]... I think we’ll have it done fairly soon.”

In response to a question about why he wouldn't impose sanctions on Russia following Putin's alleged rejection of his ceasefire offer, Trump stated, “He didn’t reject anything, and they do have sanctions. They have a lot of sanctions.”

After his Tuesday phone call with Trump, Putin instructed Russian troops to suspend strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure for a duration of 30 days. While Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky later claimed that Kiev was adhering to the "energy truce," Moscow accused Ukraine of breaching the agreement.

“We believe that the truce proposed by the United States has already been violated by Kiev,” declared Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on Thursday.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed to journalists on Friday that Putin’s directive to cease attacks on energy sites remains in effect.

Putin has asserted that he is in principle in agreement with Trump’s suggestion for a comprehensive 30-day ceasefire, but emphasized that any potential agreement must address several "significant points," such as control over implementation. He also insisted that Ukraine must halt military mobilization and that Western nations supporting Kiev need to cease arms deliveries.
