He stated that “really bad people” within the Democratic party represent a greater threat to the United States than foreign adversaries. With the election set for November 5, tensions have escalated between Trump and his Democratic rival, Vice President Kamala Harris, leading to increasingly harsh personal attacks.
A Wall Street Journal poll released on Wednesday showed Trump slightly ahead of Harris by two percentage points; however, this lead falls within the margin of error. Other recent polls from CNN and the New York Times indicate that the two candidates are closely matched.
During an appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast on Friday, Trump recalled that “we had no problem with” North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, suggesting instead that “we have a bigger problem, in my opinion, with the enemy from within.” He added, “We have people that are really bad people, that I really think want to make this country unsuccessful.”
Trump has used the term “enemy from within” in reference to his Democratic opponents in the past. On last Sunday’s Fox News’ MediaBuzz, he labeled Democratic Representative Adam Schiff and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi as part of this internal threat.
In response, during a CNN town hall on Wednesday, Harris affirmed her belief that Trump is a fascist. She warned that if elected, he would be a “president who admires dictators and is a fascist.” She referred to a report from The Atlantic, which quoted Trump’s second chief of staff, General John Kelly, as suggesting that his former boss expressed admiration for Adolf Hitler. Trump’s team has denied that such comments were ever made.
Following Harris' comments, Trump responded on X, alleging that “Comrade Kamala Harris sees that she is losing, and losing badly… so now she is increasingly raising her rhetoric, going so far as to call me Adolf Hitler, and anything else that comes to her warped mind.” He labeled her a “Threat to Democracy, and not fit to be President of the United States.” The Trump campaign has dismissed the claims reported by The Atlantic as “fabricated.”
