Trump claims Harris will transform every town into a ‘third-world hellhole’
In reaction to Kamala Harris' increasingly stringent approach to border security, Donald Trump painted a picture of a United States besieged by violent “terrorists,” while also labeling the vice president as “mentally disabled.”
Speaking to an audience in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, Trump criticized Harris’ recent visit to the U.S.-Mexico border in Arizona, where she pledged to strengthen efforts against illegal immigration beyond what President Joe Biden has implemented. Surrounded by posterboards displaying images of migrants with criminal convictions, Trump painted a dire picture of a U.S. being overwhelmed by violent “terrorists,” labeling Harris as “mentally disabled” and claiming the Biden administration's border approach is “a betrayal of the American nation.”
“You gotta get these people back where they came from. You have no choice. You’re going to lose your culture, you’re going to lose your country, you’re going to have crime the likes of which nobody has ever seen before,” Trump remarked, conceding that his speech was particularly “dark,” even by his own standards.
This address was a direct reaction to Harris’ tougher stance on border issues, which has long piqued the interest of Trump's supporters. In a competitive election against Harris, polls indicate that immigration remains a strong issue for him.
On Saturday, Trump portrayed Whitewater, Wisconsin, as a “small, very beautiful town” being “flooded” by migrants, mirroring the language he previously used to characterize Springfield, Ohio, and Aurora, Colorado, as victims of a migrant “invasion.”
“If Kamala is reelected, your town, and every town just like it, all across Wisconsin and all across our country — the heartland, the coast, it doesn't matter — will be transformed into a third-world hellhole,” he warned.
In response, Harris campaign spokesperson Sarafina Chitika told PMG that Trump has "nothing ‘inspiring’ to offer the American people, just darkness."
Trump and his supporters have recently highlighted new data from Immigration and Customs Enforcement, criticizing Harris for the 425,000 undocumented migrants with criminal records who are not currently in ICE custody. The former president asserted that these migrants were permitted entry under the Biden administration, although past Department of Homeland Security data indicates that this assertion is misleading.
Most of these individuals with criminal backgrounds were already on the non-detained docket and residing in the U.S. prior to Biden taking office, with 405,786 convicted criminals recorded on the non-detained docket in June 2021—an increase of less than 5 percent since Biden's inauguration. In April 2016, before Trump's election, the count was 368,000, which rose by over 37,000 by June 2021.
Of the estimated 647,000 total non-detained, undocumented migrants on ICE’s docket — classified as either convicted criminals or pending criminal charges — approximately 152,000 have committed violent crimes, including murder, rape, robbery, and aggravated assaults. The figures also encompass nonviolent offenses, with 126,000 related to traffic violations and 92,000 concerning immigration-related crimes.
While migrant crime has become a focal point in the 2024 election — especially in relation to cases of U.S. women and girls allegedly killed by undocumented immigrants — research shows that migrants do not commit crimes at a higher rate than U.S.-born citizens. Nevertheless, Trump has perpetuated false narratives about immigrant communities, notably the unfounded conspiracy that Haitian migrants were eating pets in Springfield, Ohio.
“Kamala has allowed more than 20 million criminals into the country because everyone who illegally crosses the border and breaks our nation’s laws is, by definition, a criminal,” said Trump campaign national press secretary Karoline Leavitt in a statement to PMG. “Kamala wants to give mass amnesty to rapists, murderers, and other violent illegal monsters. President Trump will begin the largest mass deportation in history on day one.”
It’s worth noting that Trump himself has been convicted of crimes, including 34 counts of falsifying business records linked to a hush money payment to a porn star. He was also found liable for sexually abusing E. Jean Carroll and has been barred from running businesses in New York State due to significant business fraud findings. Additionally, Trump faces indictments in three separate cases involving extensive criminal conduct before, during, and after his presidency.
