Trump Appoints RFK Jr. to Cabinet Position
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a former Democrat, has been endorsed by President-elect Donald Trump, who plans to nominate him as the Secretary of Health and Human Services. In his announcement, Trump emphasized Kennedy's commitment to “make America healthy again” and assured that “everybody will be protected from harmful chemicals [and] pollutants.”

Trump shared his announcement via social media on Thursday evening, expressing his concerns about the influence of the industrial food complex and pharmaceutical companies on public health. He stated, “For too long, Americans have been crushed by the industrial food complex and drug companies who have engaged in deception, misinformation, and disinformation when it comes to public health.”

Regarding the role of HHS, he added, “HHS will play a big role in helping ensure that everybody will be protected from harmful chemicals, pollutants, pesticides, pharmaceutical products, and food additives that have contributed to the overwhelming health crisis in this country.” Trump believes that Kennedy will restore scientific integrity to these agencies, aiming to “Make America Great and Healthy Again!”

There were reports from the New York Post indicating that some of Trump’s advisers had been advocating for Kennedy to take on an advisory role, though Kennedy was reportedly insistent on heading HHS.

If confirmed, Kennedy would be responsible for overseeing major health organizations such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Food and Drug Administration, and the National Institutes of Health. He has previously criticized these agencies and has promised to implement significant reforms.

A long-time skeptic of vaccines and an advocate for organic farming, Kennedy has also expressed intentions to “get processed food out of school lunch immediately,” to suggest the removal of fluoride from drinking water, and to impose restrictions on chemical pesticides and herbicides in agriculture.

Kennedy had announced his independent candidacy for the presidency last October, stepping away from his challenge to President Joe Biden in the Democratic primary. He suspended his campaign and endorsed Trump in August, highlighting Trump’s stance on free speech, his commitment to resolving the Ukraine conflict, and his dedication to addressing what Kennedy refers to as “the chronic disease epidemic” affecting American children.
