Trump appoints Fox News contributor Dr. Janette Nesheiwat as surgeon general
President-elect Donald Trump announced on Friday that he has appointed Dr. Janette Nesheiwat as the surgeon general for his forthcoming administration.

Nesheiwat is known for her role as a medical contributor at Fox News and serves as the medical director for CityMD, a network of urgent care facilities in New York and New Jersey.

“Dr. Nesheiwat is a fierce advocate and strong communicator for preventive medicine and public health,” Trump stated. “She is committed to ensuring that Americans have access to affordable, quality healthcare, and believes in empowering individuals to take charge of their health to live longer, healthier lives.”

With a background in emergency and family medicine, Nesheiwat has endorsed vaccines that have been questioned by Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Trump's nominee for Secretary of Health and Human Services.

However, she has expressed criticism of the CDC’s guidance on Covid vaccines, remarking earlier this year that for many Americans, particularly younger individuals, the risks associated with the vaccine may outweigh the benefits — while also noting that the risk remains low for most patients. Throughout the pandemic, Nesheiwat has criticized government mandates.

She has also raised concerns regarding the standards of care for youth experiencing gender dysphoria as outlined by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

In addition to her contributions to Fox News and other media platforms, she has authored a book focusing on “miracles in medicine” and promotes dietary supplements she has developed, according to her website.

Nesheiwat earned her medical degree and completed her residency at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, in addition to finishing an emergency medicine rotation at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.
