On August 15, 2021, Taliban troops entered Kabul as the U.S.-supported administration fell apart. They now commemorate this date as the official "Afghan Jihad" Victory Day, with additional celebrations on August 31, marking the departure of the last U.S. troops from Afghan soil.
Wednesday's military display at Bagram featured an array of Soviet-era tanks, artillery, and aircraft, including a multitude of U.S.-manufactured armored vehicles left behind by American forces. Similar parades with U.S. equipment were conducted in Kabul, Kandahar province, and other areas nationwide.
Broadcast videos from the event depicted rows of Afghan security personnel marching, equipped with rifles and heavy machine guns, and included a display of homemade bombs utilized in guerrilla attacks against U.S. and allied forces during the conflict.
