Oracle Chief Commits to Personalized AI mRNA Cancer Vaccines
Larry Ellison made an announcement at the White House coinciding with President Donald Trump's unveiling of a $500 billion AI infrastructure project.

Oracle CEO Larry Ellison shared that his company is working on an AI-driven method to create personalized cancer vaccines. He mentioned that the use of artificial intelligence allows for the production of an mRNA vaccine “robotically” in about 48 hours.

Ellison's comments were made during an event where President Donald Trump hosted him, along with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Masayoshi Son, CEO of SoftBank, to launch Stargate—a new initiative aimed at investing up to $500 billion in artificial intelligence infrastructure.

Pleased with the initiative, Ellison remarked, “one of the most exciting things we’re working on, using the tools that Sam [Altman] and [Masayoshi Son] are providing, is a cancer vaccine.” He described the innovative approach as two-pronged, where AI is initially utilized to identify “little fragments of those [cancer] tumors float[ing] around in your” blood sample.

Messenger RNA molecules convey the genetic instructions necessary for cells to produce proteins.

In addition to the early detection of cancer, he emphasized that “once we gene-sequence that cancer tumor, you can then vaccinate the person – design a vaccine for every individual person that vaccinates them against that cancer.”

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman also expressed optimism, predicting, “we will be amazed at how quickly we’re curing this cancer and that one – and heart disease.”

President Trump praised Stargate as a “monumental undertaking” and a “resounding declaration of confidence in America’s potential,” stating that it would create roughly 100,000 new jobs and ensure the “future of technology” in the United States amid its rivalry with China.

During the event on Tuesday, Ellison revealed that the first Stargate data centers are already being built in Texas.

One of Trump’s initial actions in office was to reverse an executive order from his predecessor, Joe Biden, which had sought to address AI risks.

In a related development, MIT Technology Review reported last week that OpenAI, alongside a start-up called Retro Biosciences, has developed a new language model named GPT-4b micro. This model is specifically tailored to aid scientists in extending human lifespan.

This new technology reportedly has facilitated researchers in redesigning proteins to enhance stem cell production, which is vital in regenerative medicine due to stem cells' ability to differentiate into various cell types, thus providing potential treatments for age-related diseases.
