'Oh! My Greens' Episode 9: Bidding Farewell to Beijing's Rooftop Hutong Garden
By the time midsummer arrived, Liang Si had made his way to Eddy's garden with a distinct purpose. He was on a mission to find new caretakers for his cherished plants since he had plans to relocate from his hutong and leave Beijing in the near future. Saying farewell to the plants that had been his companions for over half a decade wasn't easy. However, he held on to the idea that every goodbye paves the way for a richer reconnection later in life.
The tale of Liang Si's experiences with Eddy's rooftop garden situated in the hutongs of Beijing spans from the summer of 2020 to autumn of the following year. It's a story where Liang marvels at the evolving garden, the changes it goes through, and how it blossoms, with a specific memory of planting galaxy petunia together.
Liang Si's visit to the garden coincided with the midsummer period one year. During this time, Eddy was anticipating moving away and was seeking new caretakers for his plants. As he prepared to leave the garden he'd nurtured for five years and say farewell to Beijing and its hutongs, he found it challenging to part ways with the plants he had lovingly cultivated. Yet, he underscored that every farewell makes way for a more joyful reunion.
