During his speech to the joint session of the U.S. Congress on Wednesday, Netanyahu, who was addressing American lawmakers for a historial fifth time, outlined his vision for this alliance. Notably, about 70 members of the House and Senate were absent from the session.
"America forged a security alliance in Europe to counter the growing Soviet threat," Netanyahu said during his speech. "Likewise, America and of course Israel can forge a security alliance in the Middle East to counter the growing Iranian threat."
Netanyahu recalled an incident on April 14 as a preliminary demonstration of this alliance's potential, where a collaborative effort helped thwart an Iranian missile and drone assault on Israel.
Grateful for the support from the current and former U.S. administrations, Netanyahu applauded President Joe Biden for his role in coordinating the alliance and also commended former President Donald Trump for establishing the 'Abraham Accords' with several Arab nations during his presidency.
"I think we should call it the Abraham Alliance," he remarked, suggesting the name for the proposed coalition resemblant of NATO.
Netanyahu emphasized the need for countries that are at peace with Israel, or that plan to be, to consider joining the alliance because of the common threat posed by Iran.
"When we fight Iran, we are fighting the most radical and murderous enemy of the United States," Netanyahu explained. He stressed that Israel's efforts in combating a nuclear-capable Iran also serve to protect American interests.
"Our enemies are your enemies, our fight is your fight, our victories will be your victories," Netanyahu assured the U.S. legislators. "I know that America has our back."
Throughout the ongoing nine-month conflict with Hamas, initiated by Netanyahu following an attack by the group, the U.S. has continued to provide military aid to Israel. Despite international pressure and a proposed three-stage ceasefire plan from his government, Netanyahu underscored his commitment to achieving total victory over Hamas, eliminating its military presence, ending its governance in Gaza, and rescuing all hostages captured during the October 7 raid.
"That's what total victory means. And we will settle for nothing less,” Netanyahu declared, reaffirming his stance on the issue.
