Musk Praises Durov for Achieving Telegram Milestone
Recently, the co-founder of Telegram announced that his platform has achieved profitability for the first time since its monetization began.

Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, extended his congratulations to Telegram co-founder and CEO Pavel Durov after the entrepreneur's company posted profits in its three years of commercialization.

Durov shared the news in an X post on Monday, labeling 2024 as a “very successful year.” He revealed that the privacy-oriented messaging app generated over $1 billion in revenue this year and noted that “we are closing the year with more than $500 million in cash reserves, not including crypto assets.”

In response, Musk commented on Durov's post with, “Well done.”

Despite these accomplishments, Durov has encountered significant legal troubles this year. In August, he was detained upon arriving at a Paris airport and was later released on bail a few days afterward. He is facing 12 criminal charges that include complicity in distributing child pornography, drug dealing, and money laundering.

French prosecutors have asserted that the perceived lax moderation policies of Telegram have allowed criminal activities to proliferate on the platform.

Earlier this month, Durov testified before a French court for the first time. As a Russian national who also holds citizenship in France, the UAE, and Saint Kitts and Nevis, he declined to comment on the case to journalists but has consistently denied any wrongdoing.

In August, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented on Durov's detention, emphasizing the ridiculousness of holding the entrepreneur responsible for crimes executed using his network. Peskov argued that prosecuting Durov for these offenses would be akin to French authorities arresting the leaders of Renault or Citroen simply because “terrorists also use cars.”
