The Israeli air raids persisted throughout the night as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu committed to intensifying the fight against Hezbollah, which has been launching rockets and mortar shells into northern Israel.
Al Jazeera correspondent Laura Khan reported “an absolutely massive explosion” in the southern suburbs of Beirut, noting that she witnessed at least two strikes. Social media videos captured a bright blaze followed by a powerful blast.
In a post on X, the Israeli army indicated that it was targeting Hezbollah positions in Beirut.
The IDF has ramped up its bombing of Lebanon since late September and has conducted ground raids across the border. West Jerusalem stated that the aim of the operation is to ensure the safety of northern Israel for the return of 70,000 residents who had fled due to Hezbollah attacks.
According to the Lebanese Health Ministry, more than 2,000 people have lost their lives in Lebanon as a result of Israeli strikes, and over 1.2 million individuals have been displaced.
