March 15 is a national holiday in Hungary, honoring the 1848 revolution against Austrian domination. Both Orban’s Fidesz Party and the opposition center-right Tisza Party seized the opportunity to garner support ahead of the parliamentary elections set for April 2026.
According to Reuters, over 50,000 participants showed up for the Tisza event, with social media photos and videos capturing large crowds occupying multiple streets in the capital.
“Tisza is flooding,” demonstrators chanted, making reference to both the river and the opposition party. Established in 2020, Tisza Party has recently experienced a rise in approval, reportedly surpassing Fidesz by approximately 10%, as indicated in a Telex report from this week.
