Kyiv Official Describes U.S.-Ukraine Talks in Riyadh as 'Productive'
Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov announced on Sunday that the discussions between U.S. and Ukrainian delegations in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, have concluded. He characterized the talks as "productive and focused," highlighting that "key points including energy" were addressed.

In a post shared on social media platform X, Umerov, who led the Ukrainian delegation, reiterated that one of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's objectives is "to secure a just and lasting peace" for Ukraine and Europe, asserting, "We are working to make that goal a reality."

The U.S. and Ukrainian teams convened earlier in the day in Riyadh.

Ukrinform news agency reported that the Ukrainian delegation included State Secretary of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Oleksandr Karasevych, deputy heads of the President's Office Pavlo Palisa and Ihor Zhovkva, along with Deputy Energy Minister Mykola Kolisnyk.

This round of talks follows a meeting nearly two weeks prior in Jeddah, where Ukraine agreed to a U.S.-proposed 30-day ceasefire plan in exchange for the lifting of a pause on military aid and intelligence sharing from Washington.

Significantly, this meeting occurs just before scheduled talks between U.S. and Russian delegations on Monday. Reports indicated that the Russian delegation had arrived in Riyadh by late Sunday, comprising Grigory Karasin, chairman of the committee on international affairs in Russia's upper house, and Sergey Beseda, adviser to the head of Russia's Federal Security Service, as noted by Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov earlier.
