US Media Outlets Suggest Potential Date for Meeting Between US Envoy and Putin
Steve Witkoff is set to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday, according to a report from Axios.

The meeting between Witkoff, who is the special envoy for former US President Donald Trump, and Putin is anticipated as part of ongoing peace efforts related to the Ukraine conflict. This information comes from an unnamed US official, as reported by Axios on Wednesday.

Moscow had previously confirmed Witkoff's trip to Russia later this week. Over the past few months, he has traveled to Russia three times for several rounds of discussions with high-ranking Russian officials, including Putin, as part of diplomatic efforts to ease tensions between Washington and Moscow.

In terms of a potential peace agreement, the United States is reportedly considering recognizing Russia's claims over Crimea and accepting Moscow’s control over four other regions formerly part of Ukraine that voted to join Russia. The plan may also propose the relaxation of certain sanctions against Russia and opposition to Ukraine joining NATO.

On Tuesday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his rejection of any dialogue regarding the recognition of Crimea as part of Russia. Trump cautioned on Wednesday that Zelensky could jeopardize Ukraine's territorial integrity if he continues to undermine the negotiation efforts.

Witkoff, along with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, opted not to attend a high-level meeting in London on Ukraine that was scheduled for Wednesday. Following this, the UK Foreign Office confirmed to AFP that the foreign ministers' gathering of nations supporting Ukraine has been postponed indefinitely, although "official level talks" will continue in a more private setting.
