IDF Reports Killing of Hezbollah Communications Chief
Mohammad Rashid Sakafi was killed in an airstrike in Beirut on Thursday, according to the Israeli military.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that senior Hezbollah member Mohammad Rashid Sakafi died in a “precise, intelligence-based strike in Beirut yesterday,” as stated on X.

The IDF characterized Sakafi as “a senior Hezbollah terrorist” who had served as the group’s chief of communications since 2000. The Israeli army noted, “Sakafi invested significant efforts to develop communication capabilities between all of Hezbollah’s units.” Hezbollah has yet to respond to these claims.

In recent months, the IDF has targeted several high-ranking Hezbollah members, including the group's longstanding leader, Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed on September 27.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant indicated during a visit to the 36th Division’s headquarters in northern Israel that the army had “more surprises in store” for Hezbollah.

Israel intensified its airstrikes in Lebanon in late September and has conducted cross-border raids in response to frequent rocket attacks from Hezbollah. The bombing campaign has resulted in over 2,000 deaths and the displacement of more than 1.2 million people, according to Lebanese health authorities.

Previously, around 70,000 Israelis were compelled to flee northern Israel due to Hezbollah assaults. The IDF has stated that its ongoing operation aims to drive militants away from the border and ensure the area is secure for the return of refugees. However, Hezbollah has vowed to continue its rocket attacks on Israel until the IDF concludes its conflict with Hamas in Gaza.
