French film icon passes away
French cinema legend Alain Delon has died at the age of 88, according to reports from several French media sources last Sunday. The exact cause of death was not specified, but Delon had faced several health complications following a stroke in 2019.

His passing was confirmed to AFP by his three children, who stated that Delon died peacefully at his home in Douchy, located 120km southeast of Paris. “His family asks that his privacy be respected in this extremely painful moment of mourning,” they declared in their announcement.

Delon was a towering figure in European film during the 1960s and 1970s, known for his performances in movies like 'Le Samourai', 'Purple Noon', and 'The Swimming Pool', as well as the grand historical film 'The Leopard'. He was renowned for his portrayal of complex, captivating characters, earning him the status of a cultural icon and sex symbol.

His acting prowess was recognized in 1985 when he received the Cesar Award for Best Actor for his role in 'Notre histoire' (Our Story). In 1991, he was honored with the title of Knight of the Legion of Honor, the highest civilian distinction in France, appreciating his significant contributions to French culture.

Following his stroke in 2019, Delon largely withdrew from public life. In January, he was placed under court protection due to health concerns, which involved a third-party agent managing significant decisions such as property sales.

In April, updates from French media indicated an intensification of his guardianship. Around this time, a legal dispute arose between his children—sons Anthony and Alain-Fabien, and daughter Anouchka—over who would manage his care.

Delon also made headlines for his political stance, supporting Ukraine during the conflict with Russia. In 2022, he told Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, “I would have enlisted in the Ukrainian army to fight Russia had I been younger.” In recognition of his support, he was awarded the Order of Merit of Ukraine in April 2024, one of the nation's most prestigious honors.
