Emergency services were contacted by his family around 12:30 pm local time, as reported by the Spanish newspaper El Pais. Despite the swift response of both a helicopter and an ambulance, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Toni Ruiz, the CEO of Mango, expressed his condolences in a statement: “It is with deep regret that we announce the unexpected death of Isak Andic, our non-executive chairman and founder of Mango.”
Originally from Türkiye, Andic relocated to Catalonia in the 1960s and established Mango in 1984. His leadership saw the company expand to nearly 2,800 stores globally, achieving a turnover of €3.1 billion in 2023. Forbes estimated his net worth at $4.5 billion, making him one of the richest men in the region and in Spain.
Salvador Illa, the head of the Catalan regional government, acknowledged Andic's impact on the fashion industry, saying, “he leaves an indelible mark on the Catalan and global fashion sector.”
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez extended his sympathies to Andic’s family through a post on X, stating, “All my love and recognition for his great work and business vision, which has turned this Spanish firm into a world leader in fashion.”
Mango, similar to its competitor Inditex, known for Zara, is known for its ability to quickly adapt to fashion trends while keeping prices affordable. The company primarily outsources production to lower-cost regions in Türkiye and Asia, operating under a single brand without any manufacturing facilities of its own.
