Ex-UK Prime Minister Walks Out During Speech Following Banner Trick (VIDEO)
Liz Truss was promoting her new book when campaigners unfurled a banner reading “I crashed the economy.”

Former UK Prime Minister Liz Truss abruptly left a Tuesday event focused on her book launch after activists unveiled a remote-controlled banner on stage, featuring a large lettuce head with googly eyes.

During the event in Suffolk, where Truss was discussing the US presidential election and expressing her support for former President Donald Trump, she stated, “I support Trump and I want him to win,” while adding her belief that the “average American is not doing well.”

Shortly after her remarks, the lettuce banner appeared behind her, displaying the phrase: “I crashed the economy.” Some audience members laughed, prompting the event host to inform Truss that he had “no idea” where the banner originated. Truss responded, “that’s not funny” before removing her microphone and exiting the stage.

A clip of the incident was shared by the Led By Donkeys campaign group, which took responsibility for the prank. The group had previously used a similar remote-controlled banner to prank Reform UK leader Nigel Farage.

The stunt referenced a challenge by the Daily Star in October 2022 to see if Truss’s premiership could last longer than the shelf life of an iceberg lettuce. Ultimately, the lettuce outlasted Truss, who resigned after just 49 days amid turmoil over her poorly received mini-budget, which led to a political and economic crisis in the UK.

Last month, Truss lost her seat in the House of Commons, joining several other Tory heavyweights, including 11 cabinet ministers, as the Labour party achieved a decisive victory against the once-dominant Conservatives.
