China to hasten advancement of new industrialization, minister states
China is considering initiatives to accelerate new industrialization to robustly support the progression of Chinese modernization, stated Minister of Industry and Information Technology Jin Zhuanglong.
The focus will be to hasten the establishment of a contemporary industrial framework primarily supported by advanced manufacturing, enhance the interplay between the real and digital economies, bolster the robustness and security of industrial and supply chains, and foster the high-quality growth of small to medium-sized enterprises, Jin remarked.
Further, the country plans to implement significant technological upgrades and extensive equipment improvements in the manufacturing areas, working to bolster industry competitiveness in sectors like intelligent connected new-energy vehicles and lithium batteries, Jin explained.
Exploring new growth avenues such as bio-manufacturing, commercial aerospace, the low-altitude economy, and cutting-edge areas like humanoid robots, 6G, and atomic-level manufacturing, is also on the agenda, according to Jin.
Moreover, Jin highlighted that with the digital industry generating a revenue of 32.5 trillion yuan in 2023, efforts will be intensified to digitally transform the manufacturing sector, embrace industrialization facilitated by artificial intelligence, and advance next-generation IT sectors including integrated circuits, industrial software, and satellite internet.
In addition, there will be a push to advance the quality development of the telecommunication and information sectors, with a focus on technologies such as 5G, gigabit optical networks, and mobile Internet of Things, he added.
Despite the establishment of a broad, integrated, and competitive industrial system, Jin acknowledged the growing impacts of external changes and unresolved issues like the dependency on foreign core technologies and weak industrial base.
The imperative to fortify the resilience and security of critical industrial and supply chains was underscored by Jin, stating the necessity to expedite the creation of self-reliant and control-capable chains in vital sectors such as integrated circuits and medical equipment.
Presently, China has fostered around 12,000 “little giant” firms, characterized as elite SMEs engaged in manufacturing within niche markets and possessing advanced technologies. Jin affirmed the ministry's commitment to support the digital transformation and sustainable development of these entities.
