China Delivers Its First MA60 Firefighting Aircraft
The first delivery of China's self-developed MA60 firefighting airplanes occurred on Monday, as announced by the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), the nation's leading aircraft manufacturer.

Two MA60 firefighting planes were handed over in Xi'an, located in northwest China's Shaanxi Province, and they are set to support the country's emergency air-rescue efforts, according to AVIC.

The MA60 firefighting aircraft is classified as a large and medium-sized fixed-wing plane, specifically designed for aerial firefighting and various emergency rescue operations.

It features multiple functionalities, including water-dropping capabilities, fire monitoring, communication and command systems, personnel transportation, and supply delivery, AVIC noted.

With a maximum water-carrying capacity of 6 tonnes and a cargo transport weight limit of 3.7 tonnes, the aircraft can accommodate up to 28 individuals on board, according to its developer.

The MA60 firefighting aircraft is part of the domestically produced MA60 "Modern Ark" multipurpose aircraft series. It has received the supplemental type certificate from the Civil Aviation Administration of China, as reported by AVIC.

Development of the MA60 firefighting airplane began in 2021, during which developers achieved significant advancements in several core technologies, explained Miao Zhimin, the aircraft's chief designer.

"Looking ahead, the MA60 firefighting aircraft will be a critical force in aerial emergency response and play an important role in forest and grassland fire prevention and fighting, and personnel and supply transportation," Miao stated.
