‘Burt the croc’, Famous Crocodile from Crocodile Dundee, Passes Away in His 90s
Burt, the iconic saltwater crocodile who rose to fame after his role in the 1986 movie, has died in an Australian zoo.

The beloved reptile, known for his appearance in ‘Crocodile Dundee,’ passed away at an estimated age of over 90 during the weekend at Crocosaurus Cove in Darwin, Australia, where he had resided since 2008.

Burt became a global sensation sharing the screen with Paul Hogan, who portrayed the rugged bushman Mick Dundee in the film. ‘Crocodile Dundee’ has since become a cult classic, highlighting the Australian outback and its wildlife.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Burt,” the park revealed in an Instagram statement on Monday. The tribute emphasized Burt’s exceptional personality and enduring legacy, noting, “Burt was truly one of a kind. He wasn’t just a crocodile; he was a force of nature and a reminder of the power and majesty of these incredible creatures.”

Captured from the Reynolds River in the 1980s, Burt was known for his independent spirit. The park referred to him as a “confirmed bachelor” for his disinterest in pairing with female crocodiles during his earlier years at a crocodile farm before moving to Crocosaurus Cove.

“Visitors from around the globe marvelled at his impressive size and commanding presence, especially at feeding time,” the statement added.

Saltwater crocodiles are the largest reptiles on Earth and generally have a lifespan exceeding 70 years in the wild.
