Naomi Biden Neal, the 31-year-old daughter of Hunter Biden and his first wife, Kathleen Buhle, gave birth to a baby boy at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, as reported by various media outlets.
During an official briefing regarding wildfires in Southern California, President Biden, who was present in Los Angeles, announced the birth. While discussing the devastation caused by the fires, he mentioned that it was still uncertain if his son Hunter's home, where he resides with his wife, Melissa Cohen, had been affected.
“But the good news is I’m a great-grandfather as of today,” he told the news conference as quoted by USA Today. “A 10-pound, 4-ounce baby girl,” Biden said, quickly correcting himself, “Baby boy. So, I’ll remember this day.”
Shortly after the announcement, First Lady Jill Biden took to Instagram to share a photo of herself and her husband holding their new great-grandson, writing, “we are proud to introduce you to our great-grandson William Brannon Neal, IV.”
The couple spent approximately 40 minutes visiting Naomi and her newborn, according to the White House.
In a conversation with USA Today published later that day, President Biden revealed that his granddaughter underwent a caesarean section.
Naomi Biden wed attorney Peter Neal at the White House in 2022, making history as the first grandchild of a sitting president to marry there. She disclosed her pregnancy in November through a social media post commemorating Election Day.
Media reports also indicated that the newborn shares his name with Neal’s brother, who tragically passed away in a car accident at the age of 19 in 2009.
At 82 years old, Joe Biden has seven grandchildren, whom he frequently communicates with on a daily basis.
