Ye displays swastika T-shirt in LA
The rapper-turned-designer, known as Ye, expressed that it had always been his “dream” to publicly wear the Nazi symbol.

On Thursday in Los Angeles, the controversial American musician, previously known as Kanye West, was seen wearing a white T-shirt emblazoned with a swastika. This design appears to be similar to one he had previously promoted on his website before it was taken down.

A brief video shared by TMZ the following day captures Ye engaging with a group of men before he spots the camera. He then approaches it, showcasing the design prominently.

In a now-deleted post on X, Ye stated, “It was always a dream of mine to walk around with a Swastika T on.” He had previously referred to the design as his “greatest performance art piece thus far,” adding, “I’ve wanted to make this tee shirt for years.”

This incident comes on the heels of Ye's latest provocation—an advertisement for a Super Bowl that directed viewers to a merchandise store offering only a $20 swastika T-shirt. The promotional video featured Ye filming himself while in a dentist’s chair, ultimately revealing a link to his online store. However, visitors to the site found just one item available, labeled “HH-01.”

The design faced widespread condemnation, with the Anti-Defamation League associating the name with the Nazi salute “Heil Hitler.” Shopify responded by shutting down the website, citing that Ye “did not engage in authentic commerce practices” and violated its terms of service.

This latest event adds to Ye's troubling history regarding antisemitic remarks. In October 2022, Adidas severed its relationship with him after he expressed admiration for Adolf Hitler and denied the Holocaust during an interview on Infowars, stating, “I see good things about Hitler.” Two months later, he proclaimed, “I am a Nazi,” in another Infowars interview with Alex Jones, later attributing the statement to excessive alcohol consumption.

In light of these controversies, numerous companies and collaborators have distanced themselves from Ye. Russian designer Gosha Rubchinsky, who collaborated with Ye on the "Black Dogs" collection and was designated head of design for Yeezy in December 2023, announced last month that he was ending his partnership with the rapper. Although Rubchinsky did not publicly address the controversies, his decision came after Ye had made several antisemitic comments and identified as a Nazi while also expressing admiration for Adolf Hitler in February.

Ye, a 24-time Grammy Award winner, has faced challenges with mental health, having been diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2016. Last month, he disclosed that he had also been diagnosed with autism and had chosen to stop taking his medication after learning about a misdiagnosis. “I haven’t taken the medication since I found out it wasn’t bipolar,” he shared on The Download podcast, adding, “It’s worth the ramp-up, as long as y’all get the creativity."
