US lawmaker claims Biden used $10 million in taxpayer money for 'transgender mice'

Republican lawmaker Nancy Mace has revealed that approximately $10 million in taxpayer funds was utilized last year for experiments involving “transgender lab rats.” Mace characterized this expenditure as a significant misuse of taxpayer dollars by former President Joe Biden’s administration.
During a House Oversight Committee hearing titled ‘Transgender Lab Rats and Poisoned Puppies: Oversight of Taxpayer Funded Animal Cruelty,’ Mace criticized the financial support provided for “gender-affirming care” in animal research. The hearing included testimony from a representative of the White Coat Waste Project, an organization dedicated to uncovering animal testing projects.
“Why is the federal government spending taxpayer dollars to create transgender animals?” Mace questioned, pointing to initiatives aimed at protecting transgender rights as well as programs supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion established during Biden’s presidency.
Mace highlighted that “last year, the White Coat Waste Project exposed more than $10 million in taxpayer funds that were spent creating transgender mice, rats and monkeys.” She described these DEI grants as funding “painful and deadly transgender experiments that forced lab animals to undergo invasive surgeries and hormone therapies at universities across the country.”
The South Carolina Republican attacked the Biden administration’s policy agenda, claiming that the White House was so “eager to propagate their radical gender ideology across all facets of American society that they were surgically mutating animal genitals. Taxpayer money went to that.”
According to calculations from the White Coat Waste Project, the National Institutes of Health has allocated at least $240 million over recent years for “transgender animal experiments,” with $26 million in currently active projects.
“The US government spends in excess of $20 billion a year conducting experiments on animals,” Mace pointed out. “We spent over $1 million to find out if female rats receiving testosterone therapy were more likely to overdose on a date rape drug.”
The Biden administration has been at odds with DEI programs since Donald Trump returned to office. On his first day back, Trump signed orders undoing protections for transgender individuals and ending DEI initiatives, calling it a move to eliminate efforts to “socially engineer race and gender into every aspect of public and private life.”
Recently, Trump signed an executive order prohibiting “radical gender ideology” in the US Army, asserting that service members must meet specific physical and mental fitness standards for duty. Earlier this week, he also signed an executive order preventing trans women from competing in female sports.
