Lisa T. Boykin, who has served in this role for many years, continues to be listed among the ATF leadership. Critics on social media have suggested that the agency is attempting to "circumvent" Trump's directive.
The Daily Mail, a British tabloid, accused the ATF of using "sneaky tactics" to undermine the executive order.
Boykin joined the ATF in 2002 as an employee and labor relations specialist, later taking leadership of the Human Resources Operations Division and the Workforce Wellness Services Division in 2016. According to her public biography, she became the bureau's chief diversity officer in 2021.
The agency stated that Boykin's promotion was in support of then-President Joe Biden’s executive order aimed at advancing the DEI agenda within the federal workforce. Her responsibilities included integrating these practices "as an integral facet of ATF work and programs," which the bureau described as "instrumental in enhancing the recruitment, hiring, retention and promotion policies."
In a memo regarding Trump’s DEI policy rollbacks, the White House instructed federal agencies to place their diversity officers on paid administrative leave and to devise plans for “reduction-in-force action” targeting the pertinent offices. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt made the document available to the public on Tuesday.
The elimination of DEI initiatives is a component of Trump’s strategy to abolish what he considers Biden’s “divisive and wasteful” policies. In a recent discussion with Fox News host Sean Hannity, the president asserted that his electoral victory was indicative of voters' disapproval of the "horrible" policies promoted by the "radical left."
