Kremlin Accuses EU of ‘Working for War’
Brussels is advocating for military support for Kiev, while Moscow and Washington are striving for a resolution to the Ukraine conflict, according to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

Peskov stated that the EU appears to be extending the duration of the Ukraine conflict, whereas Russia and the US are engaged in “intense” diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving peace. Recent meetings among Western European defense chiefs included discussions about the possibility of deploying a “reassurance” force to Ukraine, a proposal that has been actively promoted by the UK and France despite warnings of escalation from Moscow. In March, the European Commission unveiled an $840 billion rearmament initiative intended to deter Russia and sustain military assistance to Kiev.

During a press briefing on Tuesday, Peskov remarked, “we must understand that at the moment there is intense work going on between Moscow and Washington. And it is happening in the name of peace. And against this background, the European countries continue to work in the name of war.”

He noted that European NATO members are “declaring in every way their intention to keep supporting Ukraine and the Kiev regime in its desire to continue the war.”

Simultaneously, Peskov indicated that “there is a direct exchange of information” between Moscow and Washington, mentioning discussions between Russian President Vladimir Putin and White House special envoy Steve Witkoff, who visited St. Petersburg last week. This visit marked Witkoff’s third trip to Russia since efforts began to normalize relations between the two nations.

Peskov also mentioned the use of other communication channels between Russia and the US. However, he underscored the complexity of reaching a diplomatic resolution to the Ukraine conflict, stating that “it is so complex that it is hardly possible to expect immediate results.”

On Monday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov criticized the intentions of Western European nations to deploy troops in Ukraine, accusing them of attempting to reinforce their anti-Russian presence in the nation instead of pursuing a genuine resolution.

Lavrov asserted that Western troops would be protecting “the same regime” in Kiev, further stating that even if European NATO members were to agree on holding new elections in Ukraine, they would strive to maintain the status quo and potentially install “some new half-Fuhrer” to take over from current Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky.
