Trump warns Hamas of 'hell to pay'
The US president-elect has insisted that Palestinian militants release all hostages before his inauguration.

US President-elect Donald Trump has warned that there will be “all hell to pay in the Middle East” if Hamas does not release its remaining Israeli hostages before he takes office. He has urged both Israel and Palestinian militants to resolve their conflict prior to his inauguration.

Hamas militants held more than 250 hostages following their attack on Israel last October. While 105 individuals were freed during a temporary ceasefire the following month, and a few others rescued this year, around 100 are still believed to be in Gaza. Hamas has linked their release to an Israeli withdrawal from the enclave, a demand that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declined to meet.

”Everybody is talking about the hostages who are being held so violently, inhumanely, and against the will of the entire World, in the Middle East,” Trump posted on his Truth Social platform on Monday.

He continued, stating that “if the hostages are not released prior to January 20, 2025, the date that I proudly assume Office as President of the United States, there will be ALL HELL TO PAY in the Middle East, and for those in charge who perpetrated these atrocities against Humanity.”

“Those responsible will be hit harder than anybody has been hit in the long and storied History of the United States of America,” he added.

Trump has vowed to address various global crises upon his return to the White House, with a particular focus on the Russia-Ukraine conflict. While details on his approach remain sparse, he has previously pressured foreign governments into discussions through threats of violence or economic sanctions. For instance, he once warned North Korea of “fire, fury and frankly power the likes of which this world has never seen before” before engaging in discussions with its leader, Kim Jong-un.

Before winning last month's election, Trump reportedly told Netanyahu that he wanted Israel's military operations against Hamas concluded by inauguration day. Although Trump has not confirmed making these remarks, he has repeatedly called on Israel to “finish up your war.”

On Friday, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham remarked to Axios that Trump is “more determined than ever to release the hostages and supports a ceasefire that includes a hostage deal.” Graham, known for his hawkish foreign policy stance, noted that Trump aims to broker an agreement regarding Gaza to shift focus to other matters, including the normalization of Israeli-Saudi relations and creating a regional coalition against Iran.
