Trump's margin surpassed 130,000 votes at the time the announcement was made. Although North Carolina is generally considered a Republican stronghold, Democrats had aimed to turn the tide in their favor during this election cycle. The last time they managed to do so was in 2008, when the state supported Barack Obama.
This win would add 16 electoral votes to Trump’s tally, moving him closer to the 270 votes necessary to win the presidency. Initial results indicate he is poised to outperform his Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris.
According to The New York Times, Trump now has a 90% probability of winning the White House, and the publication has labeled his potential return to power as “likely.” The newspaper's analysis of preliminary vote counts and polling data suggests Trump could secure 301 electoral votes, while Harris is expected to garner 238 votes.
Furthermore, the Washington Post's latest projections indicate that Trump is “slightly favored” in six out of seven key swing states that will be crucial for the election outcome. Despite a significant number of votes already being counted in these states, his lead in critical areas such as Pennsylvania, Georgia, and Wisconsin remains too close to call definitively.
