Boao Forum 2025 Delivers Powerful Call for Openness and Cooperation in Asia
The Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2025 concluded on Friday in Boao, located in south China's Hainan Province, with a focus on openness and cooperation as central themes.

This year’s forum, themed "Asia in the Changing World: Towards a Shared Future," emphasized the significance of innovation, openness, and collaboration in driving economic growth across Asia and beyond. Frank-Juergen Richter, chairman of the international think tank Horasis and former director of the World Economic Forum, shared insights with Xinhua in an interview prior to the event, underscoring that innovation and regional cooperation are crucial for tackling global challenges and promoting sustainable development.

Carl Fey, a professor of strategy at BI Norwegian Business School in Oslo, Norway, remarked that collaboration is particularly vital, especially since some countries, like the US, have moved away from cooperative efforts and are imposing high tariffs.

In agreement, Lord Gerry Grimstone, a former minister for investment in the UK’s Department for International Trade and Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, stated that a trade war serves no one’s interest and highlighted the need to recognize the benefits of global trade for people and economic growth.

China’s initiative to open up further has also contributed positively to strengthening regional cooperation in Asia. Jiang Ying, chair of market consultancy at Deloitte China, characterized this new era of Asian cooperation as reciprocal. She noted that China continues to advance high-level opening-up in its manufacturing sector and is working to attract global businesses by enhancing the business environment, which will ultimately benefit Asia's economy.

Denis Depoux, global managing director of Roland Berger, added that China’s visa-free policies have facilitated easier operations for foreign businesses.
