The assassination attempt might not have had any impact on him in the end.

Trump resumes insulting opponents despite reported "transformation"
Former President Donald Trump has resumed his usual mode of personal attacks and inflammatory rhetoric, despite recent events suggesting he might have softened. Just weeks after an attempt on his life—an incident his allies claimed had transformed him—Trump is targeting Vice President Kamala Harris, his new chief political competitor, with a barrage of insults.

Trump has unleashed a series of demeaning labels on Harris, including “dumb as a Rock,” “crazy,” “nuts” and “Laughing Kamala,” taking advantage of recent viral memes about her. He's also revived an earlier derogatory nicknaming tactic, now dubbing her “Lyin’ Kamala.”

This behavior reflects what many observers identify as a consistent aspect of Trump's persona: a resistance to change. Despite expectations of a new Trump post-presidency or after the Capitol riot on January 6, he remains unchanged.

Trump's spokesperson, Steven Cheung, defended the former president’s approach, highlighting his commitment to truth. “President Trump is a truth-teller, and there is nothing more unifying than telling the truth about a weak, failed, incompetent, and dangerously liberal Kamala Harris and her destructive policies,” Cheung stated.

After the July 13 shooting incident, Trump’s allies described him as altered, using words like “emotional,” “serene,” and even “spiritual.” However, his behavior at the Republican National Convention and subsequent campaign appearances suggest these changes were superficial at best.

Trump’s rhetoric has escalated following Harris's impressive fundraising achievement, wherein she garnered $100 million within 24 hours of Biden withdrawing from the race. This led to what Trump's campaign referred to as the “Harris Honeymoon,” as outlined in a memo by chief pollster Tony Fabrizio.

Meanwhile, Trump's choice of running mate, Senator JD Vance of Ohio, marks a shift from Vance's previous critical stance on Trump to a supportive role, even though he faces his own challenges with public perception.

Amid these changes, Harris has been assertive in her campaign against Trump, labeling him a “convicted felon,” which seems to have particularly struck a nerve with Trump. He expressed frustration on social media, dismayed at the narrative shift favoring Biden as he steps down, which positions Harris in a stronger light.

“I can’t believe it!,” he exclaimed on Truth Social. “They’re turning Crooked Joe Biden, the Worst President in the History of the United States, into a 'Hero' - He was pushed out of power like a dog, and look what the Radical Left is able to do. MAGA2024!”
