Trump Announces Plans to Debate Harris
Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday committed to debating Vice President Kamala Harris and expressed his willingness to engage in more than one debate with her.

The next debate, set for Sept. 10, will be hosted by ABC News. Recently, Trump advocated for the more conservative Fox News to host the debate, referring to ABC as "a joke."

Despite this, during a conference call with reporters on Tuesday afternoon, Trump confirmed he would debate Harris regardless of the hosting network, stating he "would be willing to do more than one debate actually."

Although Trump expressed dissatisfaction with ABC, describing it as supportive of President Joe Biden and Harris after watching it on Monday, he emphasized the importance of debates in a presidential race. “I think if you're the Democrat nominee or the Republican nominee, you really have an obligation to debate,” Trump stated.

Harris’ campaign has not yet responded to a request for comment.

In May, Trump and Biden agreed to participate in two debates — one on June 27, hosted by CNN, and another on Sept. 10, to be televised on ABC. Biden's poor showing in the June debate led to a significant push from top Democrats, successfully pressuring him to exit the race.

Trump remarked that he viewed Harris as "easier" to defeat than Biden, describing Biden as "slightly more mainstream, but not much."

Nevertheless, on Tuesday afternoon, the Trump campaign released a memo from pollster Tony Fabrizio, predicting that Harris would experience a polling boost that would temporarily place her ahead of Trump in surveys. Fabrizio wrote, “Given what has happened over the past couple of days and her impending VP choice, there is no question that Harris will get her bump earlier than the Democrat’s Convention. And that bump is likely to start showing itself over the next few days and will last a while until the race settles down.”

The focus of the Trump campaign’s conference call was on immigration, an issue Trump plans to highlight in his criticism of Harris. The call coincided with Harris holding her first campaign rally near Milwaukee, the site of last week’s Republican National Convention.
