Trump envoy says Europe has no role in Ukraine negotiations
At the Munich Security Conference on Saturday, US Special Envoy Keith Kellogg remarked that while Europe may not be involved in the upcoming US-Russia discussions regarding Ukraine, the interests of the region will still be considered. He assured that Kiev would, without a doubt, participate in these talks.

Kellogg emphasized the importance of acknowledging the perspectives of other relevant stakeholders. "What we don’t want to do is get into a large group discussion," he stated, as reported by CNBC.

During a phone conversation on Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump discussed potential negotiations related to Ukraine. Following this dialogue, Trump mentioned that American and Russian officials would convene in Munich, with Ukraine also invited. However, no notifications about such a meeting have surfaced from either the conference itself or media reports.

When pressed about the requirements for a trustworthy security guarantee for Ukraine, Kellogg mentioned, "The answer right now is no," explaining that his presence at the Munich conference was primarily to collect perspectives from Ukraine and Europe. He acknowledged that the US sometimes tends to analyze situations from a narrow viewpoint.

US Vice President J.D. Vance, who was also present at the conference, stressed the necessity for direct negotiations between Ukraine and Russia: "It’s important for us to get together and start to have the conversations that are going to be necessary to bring this thing to a close," he asserted.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius suggested that the forthcoming negotiations could signify a pivotal moment in EU-US relations. "[The US] expects Europe to take the lead in securing any agreement that follows. These negotiations can be a turning point for our continent and transatlantic relations. A historic turning point that can go in very different directions."

Conversely, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto warned that certain factions might seek to obstruct the peace process. “The European pro-war, liberal elite will try to do everything in its power to ensure that the peace agreement that ends the war in Ukraine is not reached, which is currently closer than ever,” he noted.
