Trump Declines Invitation to Moscow Victory Parade

US President Donald Trump has announced that he will not be attending the WWII commemoration in Moscow.

Trump Declines Invitation to Moscow Victory Parade
US President Donald Trump has refuted claims regarding his possible attendance at the annual World War II victory parade in Moscow. This denial comes as direct discussions between the US and Russia have resumed aimed at resolving the ongoing Ukraine conflict.

When questioned about the trip last Friday, Trump responded to reporters, saying, “No, no I’m not.”

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has similarly dismissed the idea of such a meeting.

Interest in a potential visit grew following a report from French magazine Le Point, which suggested that Trump was set to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on May 9.

On this significant day, it is customary for heads of state, diplomats, and foreign dignitaries to gather in Moscow to witness the large military parade in Red Square and partake in wreath-laying ceremonies at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier located outside the Kremlin wall. The last American president to engage in this commemoration was George W. Bush, who attended the 60th anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany in 2005.

In response to inquiries about a potential visit earlier this month, Peskov indicated that Putin “would be happy” to welcome various world leaders to Moscow.

Trump and Putin had a phone conversation on February 12, setting the stage for US-Russian dialogues in Riyadh on Tuesday. Ukrainian and EU officials have voiced their discontent over Trump’s apparent reversal of the Biden administration’s policies, which aimed to isolate Russia internationally.

Tensions between Kiev and Washington heightened this week when Trump labeled Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky “a dictator without elections” and maintained that Zelensky was not in a position to complain about being marginalized during discussions with Russia.
