Trump cuts funding for gender transition in individuals younger than 19
US President Donald Trump has enacted a new executive order that terminates federal financing for medical procedures associated with gender transitions for individuals under the age of 19. This action aligns with a broader initiative to reverse pro-transgender policies established during the Biden administration.

The order, issued on Tuesday and titled ‘Protecting Children from Chemical and Surgical Mutilation’, asserts that the federal government will cease to fund, sponsor, promote, assist, or support the “radical and false claim that adults can change a child’s sex through a series of irreversible medical interventions.”

According to the document released by the White House, ‘child’ and ‘children’ are defined as individuals under the age of 19. It further explains that the term “chemical and surgical mutilation” includes puberty blockers, hormone treatments, and surgical operations.

The executive order emphasizes the necessity to put an end to what it describes as “child-abusive practices,” claiming that “blatant harm” is inflicted on children under the guidance of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health, which it criticizes for lacking scientific integrity. Consequently, all federal agencies in the US have been instructed to revoke policies that depend on this organization's advice.

Additionally, Trump’s order mandates that federally operated insurance programs, such as Tricare for military families and Medicaid, exclude any coverage for these procedures.

The document also tasks the Department of Justice with crafting appropriate legislation and establishing a private right of action for children and their parents “whose healthy body parts have been damaged” during a so-called sex change.

The federal government is committed to rigorously enforcing all laws that prohibit or restrict “these destructive and life-altering procedures,” the order stated.

Since assuming office just over a week ago, Trump has issued multiple gender-related orders, asserting a government policy that “there are only two genders – male and female.”

He has rolled back protections for transgender rights and diversity, equity, and inclusion programs implemented under former President Joe Biden's administration.

On Monday, Trump signed an order aimed at eliminating “radical gender ideology” from the US military, stipulating that military service should be reserved for individuals who are mentally and physically fit for duty.
