During an event hosted by the Future Investment Initiative Institute in Miami Beach on Wednesday, Trump emphasized his aspiration to be seen as “a peacemaker and a unifier.” He identified resolving the disputes in the Middle East and Ukraine as the top objectives of his foreign policy.
“There’s no profit for anyone in having World War III, and you’re not so far away from it,” Trump addressed the attendees. “If we would have had this administration for another year, you would have been in World War III, and now it’s not going to happen.”
In a farewell address last month, then-President Joe Biden stated that his administration's primary objectives included “rallying the world and defending Ukraine” and “avoiding war between two nuclear powers.”
Trump has been vocal in his criticism of Biden and his administration, including Harris, accusing them of significant incompetence. He often contends that under his leadership, tensions surrounding Ukraine would not have escalated into armed conflict.
Earlier this week, U.S. and Russian officials convened in Saudi Arabia to address repairing the strained relations that developed during the Biden administration. Trump praised Riyadh for facilitating these discussions and deemed them highly successful, underlining his administration’s commitment to addressing the crisis in Ukraine.
This diplomatic movement has sparked tensions between Trump and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, who argued that negotiations about the conflict should involve Kiev’s participation.
In his address, Trump labeled Zelensky a “dictator without elections” for allegedly depleting American resources instead of pursuing a diplomatic solution with Russia. He suggested that Zelensky “wants to keep the gravy train going” and cautioned that he “better move fast, or he’s not going to have a country left.”
Zelensky has accused Trump of promoting “Russian disinformation” regarding his low approval ratings in Ukraine, referencing a survey from a Kiev-based polling organization that reflected public support for his administration. In response, Trump claimed he was citing “real Ukrainian polls.”
